Introduction

Interracial marriage has been popular in Taiwan these days; foreign bridegrooms and brides are everywhere we go. Our group members are curious about this phenomenon, so we decide to do some research, hoping to find out why interracial marriages increase year over year. We analyze various factors that cause Taiwanese men resort to neighbouring countries for their better half instead of marrying women with the same nationality.

Also, we divide foreign brides into two major groups－Southeast Asia brides and Mainland China brides. We go further to study the problems that may exist in their marriage with Taiwanese men, such as how these interracial couples convey their feelings in different languages, how they get with different local and social customs, and how these foreign spouses cope with discriminations from the locals, etc.

In addition, the group will look briefly into the marriages between Taiwanese women and the Westerners－is it because these Taiwanese women worship everything, including husband, foreign, that they prefer to marry Europeans or Americans? Potential problems that may emerge from cross-cultural marriages because of culture shock and dissimilar lifestyles will also be stated in this project. We hope this project will give readers better understandings about this new pattern of marriage.
